HoverKart, TOM Melbourne, 2023.

Client: TOM Melbourne & Julie Postma.
Collaborator: Lenie Chin.
I collaborated with TOM, Melbourne, on a project for Julie, a Paralympic wall climber, who needed a mobility device to traverse gym mats and reach climbing walls without crawling. I focused on designing the HoverKart’s frame, ensuring it was lightweight, stable, and tailored to her needs, while Lenie worked on the surface material.

Julie loved how the frame seamlessly integrated with the seat, supporting her movements intuitively. She described it as feeling “natural” and “comfortable” as it accommodated her legs at just the right heights. The design felt tailored to her body, providing a sense of ease and confidence.

The HoverKart also resonated with the Paralympic climbing community in the Netherlands. To support its use, I created an instructional video, breaking down the build process step-by-step. This accessible guide made the design replicable for fabricators worldwide, ensuring greater impact and reach.
